WPH Devotions Week 4

Breakthrough In Resistance

Have you ever had a season of your life where it feels like the enemy has a huge target on your back and he is paying all his minions over time to engage in target practice? Or have you ever assumed when you come against resistance, it must not be God’s will? I think we forget that part of co-laboring with God includes contending for His promises, taking authority over the enemy,  and persisting in prayer. Resistance doesn’t necessarily mean “no”. It can mean we must spiritually take a stand and fight with the authority given to us by Jesus. The enemy has been defeated through Jesus' death, resurrection, and ascension, but we are still living in a broken, sinful world. John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” God gives us battle armor to fight those spiritual battles (Ephesians 6:10-18), and Jesus encourages us in John 16:33, “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” We can expect resistance from the enemy and God has given us tools to help break through the resistance. This week we will be exploring what that looks like. The most important thing to remember is God has the final say and he empowers us as we contend for breakthrough!
