Matthew - Part 24

The Meltdown - Matthew Series – Pt. 24

1/3/09 -1/4/09 - Matthew 26:1-46

Christ’s Team Is Tested

“One should rather die than be betrayed. There is no deceit in death. It delivers precisely what it has

promised. Betrayal, though…betrayal is the willful slaughter of hope.”

Steven Deitz

“Experience is the worst teacher. It always gives the test first and the instruction afterward.”

“Fail at love and the other tests don’t matter.”

Richard Bach

“Valor is a gift. Those having it never know for sure whether they have it until the test comes. And

those having it in one test never know for sure if they will have it when the next test comes.”

Napoleon Bonapar te

When ______ is not what you ______ you will

_______ give Him ________.

Questions for the Heart and Spirit

1) When you are given an opportunity to serve, what is your response? Do you ever

give others an opportunity to serve you, or do you turn them down?

2) What is the purpose of serving others from God’s point of view? What does it do for

them? What does it do for you?

3) Are you able to keep confidences? All the time, most of the time, some of the time

or never? Are you tempted to share, as a prayer request?

4) When someone asks you to pray for them, do you follow through? How about items

which come over the prayer chain? How long do you pray?

Questions for the Mind

1) Read: Ex 12:1-14; Matt 26:1-2; Jn 12:1,12,23; 13:1 Why do you think Jesus chose

Passover to go to Jerusalem, when He knew the city would be crowded with people?

What connection was there between Jesus and Passover besides that he was a Jew?

2) Read: Ps 22:13; 113:7; Pr 19:17; 22:9; Matt 19:21; 26:11; Lk 4:18 What was Jesus

attitude toward the poor? What example did he give to us relative to the poor?

What is our responsibility?

3) Read: Gen 6:5-6; 1 Sam 15:35; 1 Sam 20:33-34; Matt 17:22-23; 26:36-38 Who was

grieving in these scriptures? Why were they grieving? Were they all grieving for the

same reason? What does it mean to grieve?

Spend some time researching how the Passover is celebrated today. Why is it also

called the Feast of Unleavened Bread?

Matthew 26:40 indicated that Jesus went away to pray for one hour and returned to

find the disciples sleeping and was very disappointed. Spend an hour in prayer, so you

might gain a new appreciation of their condition.
