The one thing I ask of the LORD— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple. Psalm 27:4
We often think of worship as the designated time of music right before a sermon on Sunday. But worship is so much more than a few songs sung at the beginning of a service. For the Christ-follower, worship is the posture in which we live our entire lives.
But what fuels our worship?
If we’re honest, sometimes we don’t have the energy to express worship the way we think we should. Two years ago, during a season when I was craving intimacy with the Lord—yet feeling too depleted to do what felt like the “work” to get there, He gently reminded me of something profound: what He really wanted from me was my attention. He wanted my heart.
Worship is first an invitation to receive, not a mandate to perform. It begins with beholding who God is (receiving Him) and in His presence, we can’t help but respond.
Worship is our genuine response to a radically loving God. But in order to respond, we must first receive Him… and receive Him daily. How many of us let the Lord bless us daily? Do we dine on His mercies each morning? Meditate on who He is? Fix our eyes on the beauty of Jesus? Rely on Him to fill in the gaps of our lives and meet our every need?
Too often, we spend more time questioning the sufficiency of our sacrifice and evaluating the quality of our praise than marveling at our King. But worship is not a task to complete—it’s an invitation to commune with a loving Father.
Sometimes I need to be reminded that He is my Redeemer. Other times, my Healer. My Advocate. My Defender. My Friend. There is always more of Him to behold—and always more reasons to worship. So today, soak in Him more fully. Give Him your attention. Dine on the riches only found in Him. Allow yourself to be blessed by the God who meets you exactly where you are.
Listening Prayer: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what attribute of God you need to receive today. Meditate on who God is and offer up a prayer of thanksgiving.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I love, honor and worship you. Thank you for loving me and choosing me. Lord, would you give me the eyes to see you today—to be blessed by your creativity, justice, mercy, kindness, wisdom, power and strength [any other attribute that sticks out to you]. I pray against all distractions and fix my eyes on your Son, Jesus. Holy Spirit, restore me in you and lead me deeper into Jesus today.
We give you all the praise and the glory, in Jesus’ Name, amen.

Psalm 71:22-24
I will praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, my God;
I will sing praise to you with the lyre,
Holy One of Israel.
My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praise to you—
I whom you have delivered.
My tongue will tell of your righteous acts
all day long,
for those who wanted to harm me
have been put to shame and confusion.
Hebrews 12:28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.
