Key Passage: Exodus 14:13-14:

“And Moses said to the people, ‘Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.’”

Sometimes we wrestle with a situation that feels completely out of our control. We can feel boxed in by fear, by failure, or by external circumstances that are pressing in on us. We feel we’ve exhausted our available options, prayed countless prayers, and still the pressure mounts. That’s exactly how the Israelites felt as they stood at the edge of the Red Sea, with the Egyptian army bearing down on them. They had no way out. But Moses reminded them of a powerful truth: “God is the One who delivers.

Deliverance is one of the core characteristics of God. Throughout the Text we see His heart to rescue, redeem, and restore. In Exodus 14, the Israelites stood terrified at the edge of the Red Sea, trapped  between impossible circumstances. It’s in that impossible place, God told them to be silent—also translated as be still. This is because He would do the delivering.

We tend to respond to hardship with striving. We try to fix, fight, or flee. Being “silent” or “still” often feels counterintuitive. But deliverance doesn’t come through effort—it comes through surrender. Our job is not to part the sea; it’s to trust the One who can.

When we allow God to deliver us, we get more than just relief—we receive His revelation. We see His power, His faithfulness, and His deep love. Sometimes, our personal “Red Sea” situation doesn’t part immediately. Sometimes we’re asked to wait. But even then, He is working. And when He delivers, it’s always a better resolution than would be the case if we handled the situation ourselves. These kinds of situations are not ours to fix. They are God’s to redeem.

Where do you feel stuck right now? Is there a relationship, a temptation, a fear, or a situational challenge that feels bigger than you? Instead of reacting in fear or self-effort, pause and ask: “God, where are You in this?” Then listen. Trust. Wait. Take the next faithful step, knowing God is already at work behind the scenes. Deliverance is His specialty.

Listening Prayer:

Ask the Holy Spirit to show you where you are trying to deliver yourself. Are you striving, stressing, or controlling something that God is asking you to release? Invite Him into that space and listen for His direction.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that You are the God who delivers. Forgive me for the times I have tried to fix what only You can redeem. I step away from my fear, my striving, and my need for control. Help me to be still and trust in Your power. I welcome Your deliverance in every area of my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
