Acts 1:8 (ESV):
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
There are times when we feel dry—emotionally, spiritually, even physically drained. There are many reasons that contribute to this feeling we experience: The seemingly unrelenting demands at work, a relational struggle, a physical, mental or emotional injury or illness, or a general sense that we just don’t feel close to God. In these times it’s important to listen for an invitation. It’s a gentle invitation from the Lord: “Ask Me to fill you again.”
God never intended for us to live the Christian life in our own strength. Even the disciples—who had walked with Jesus in person—were told to wait until they were filled with the Holy Spirit before beginning their ministry. Why? Because they would need power, not just passion.
The Holy Spirit is not just a one-time encounter. Scripture encourages us to be continually filled (Ephesians 5:18). Just like a lamp can’t shine without being plugged into a power source, we cannot walk in authority, love, or boldness unless we are connected to and filled by the Spirit of God.
When the Holy Spirit fills us, things shift. Fear becomes courage. Weakness becomes strength. Confusion becomes clarity. We are reminded that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead now lives in us (Romans 8:11). And He empowers us to carry the presence and power of God into every situation.
Today, make space to invite the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh. Ask Him to empower your words, your thoughts, and your decisions. Are you walking into a difficult conversation? Parenting with fatigue? Serving beyond your limits? These are especially the moments when the Holy Spirit is our Helper. Stop and pray: “Holy Spirit, I need You. Fill me again.”
Listening Prayer: Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh today. Is there an area of your life that feels empty, weak, or dry? Invite Him to come and empower you with His presence, love, and authority.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, I invite You to fill me once again. Thank You that You are my Helper, my Comforter, and my Power Source. I surrender my own strength and ask for Yours. Fill me with boldness, wisdom, and love. Empower me to live, speak, and serve like Jesus. In His name I pray, amen.
