Ephesians 6:10–13 (ESV)
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”

Growing up in a large family, I learned early on that life doesn’t always feel peaceful, but you can still be grounded. I think that’s what Paul is getting at in this passage. He’s not saying life won’t be hard or that we’ll never face opposition. He’s reminding us that in the heat of spiritual battle, we don’t have to panic, we just have to be prepared.

As a teacher, I’ve seen the difference it makes when students come to school equipped. When they have their supplies, a growth mindset, and their confidence, they can face the day, even when it’s hard. That’s how the armor of God works. It equips us to show up ready.

This armor isn’t just for pastors or intercessors. It’s for every believer, every mom, teacher, husband, student, and child of God. We can’t fight spiritual battles with natural tools. That’s why we’re told to “put on” truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word. Each piece covers something vulnerable. Each piece helps us stand, not strive, not shrink, not run, but stand.

And let’s not miss this: we’re not putting on the armor of self. It’s not about how strong we are, it’s about how strong He is. The armor reminds us that we are covered and protected by a God who fights for us. The enemy may try to distract, discourage, or divide, but we are not defenseless.

Listening Prayer:
Holy Spirit, show me where I’ve been trying to fight in my own strength. Am I missing any piece of your armor today?

Prayer:
Father, thank You for equipping me to stand firm. I receive the armor You’ve provided, not with fear, but with faith. I put on truth to guide me, righteousness to cover me, peace to anchor me, faith to shield me, salvation to assure me, and Your Word to strengthen me. Teach me to walk daily in this armor, not just when life feels hard, but in every moment. Help me to be aware, alert, and always covered in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
