“My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths and they have not harmed me, inasmuch as I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.” (Daniel 6:22)

I love how God in his sovereignty knows all the ways we will need help. He has sent the Holy Spirit to guide us, comfort us, exhort us and fill us with power. He has given us one another to work together. Each of us are filled with different gifts and abilities, different parts of the same body of believers all working toward the same goal. He has given us his Word, filled with promises, examples, and direction. And if that were not enough, he also sends his angels to help us in the spiritual battle.

In Daniel 6, God sent an angel to rescue Daniel in the lions’ den. In Daniel 10, we observe Daniel who had been praying and fasting for three weeks seeking help from God. The angel was sent to minister to him the day he began his fast. Additionally, we get a glimpse at the spiritual battle that is at the heart of Daniel’s prayers. The angel was not only fighting on behalf of Daniel’s prayers, he also ministered to Daniel’s physical body. Likewise, when we pray, angels fight on our behalf to overcome evil spirits and principalities.

We see another example of angelic intervention in Acts 12. Many were gathered and praying for Peter who had been imprisoned and chained to two guards. An angel came to the prison to set Peter free.  There are so many other examples as well. What a comfort it is to know as we battle the enemy, God sends angels to help when we pray.

We have no idea of the spiritual battles that are often being fought to answer our prayers, to protect us, to deliver us, heal us, and minister to us. Angels are another way God helps us in deliverance. When contending in prayer, we can ask God to release angels to assist us in our spiritual battles.

Listening Prayer:

Ask the Holy Spirit to direct your time today. Ask him to show you the weapons the Lord is using to help you as you contend for your freedom and the freedom of those around you. Write down what he shows you.

Prayer:

Lord God, we thank you for all the ways you help us as we contend for our freedom and the  freedom of others. Thank you for sending us angels to assist us and for all the ways, seen and unseen, that you intervene on our behalf. Holy Spirit, remind us of this valuable resource when we are in the battle. Help us to discern how to utilize all the weapons of warfare you have equipped us with.
